Founded as Gay Pride Day in 1975 by the owner of Lambda Rising Bookstore, the Capital Pride Festival is a family-friendly day of entertainment, music, food, drink, education and celebration on Pennsylvania Avenue. There are three stages with national and local acts, along with 300 exhibitors and food vendors. Because of the asphalt and the crowds, pets are advised to stay home.
