Home to Chinese Muslims for over 1000 years, the Muslim Quarter is a Middle Eastern souk that grew up at the eastern end of the Silk Road. Along Beiyuanmen Muslim Street, you can shop for unique souvenirs and sample snacks and dishes like Yangrou Paomo (crumbled flat bread in mutton stew) that have roots in two cultures. The neighborhood is particularly lively after dark.
