Vor Frue Kirk, or Church of Our Lady, functions as Copenhagen's main cathedral. The current structure was built in 1829, but there has been a church on this site since 1191, making it one of the most historic areas in the city. The exterior of the church is deceptively simple, but after passing through the somber Doric columns of the entrance, the Neoclassical details of the interior are revealed. Among other art pieces guests can view Bertel Thorvaldsen's large statue of Christ; this is really the crowning glory of the space, and is a magnificent example of his artistry. The cathedral often hosts free musical events, see website for details. Admission is free.
