There's no better place to stroll or sit than the 28-hectare (70-acre) Tuileries Garden between the Louvre and Place de la Concord. The name comes from the tile factories that operated there centuries ago, but it will always be linked to the formal gardens of Louis XIV's gardener André Le Nôtre. Whether you're writing deep thoughts in your journal or letting your kids unwind on the carousel or trampolines, the Tuileries is a refuge in the city's center. Musée de l'Orangerie at the southwest corner displays Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works. Fête des Tuileries turns the northeast corner into an amusement park with ferris wheel each summer.
