With the novel by Döblin and its subsequent filming by Fassbinder, Berlin's otherwise bleak Alexanderplatz has a certain pedigree among tourists that it otherwise wouldn't have. Once the site of parades and military events and demonstrations against the DDR in the late 80s, today it is essentially a busy, concrete thoroughfare. But it is still, in its infamy, a must-see for any tourist, ideally a glance through the window as one passes by on the S-Bahn.

Very touristy, but a great place to meet up with others and admire the Soviet architecture.
