One of Gaudí's earliest works, Palau Güell is an art nouveau masterpiece inspired by Venetian palaces. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mansion was begun in 1886, inaugurated for the 1888 world exhibition and completed several years later with the last of 20 chimneys. Just off La Rambla, it recently underwent seven years of restoration.
