La Rambla, the city's most famous street, runs from Plaça de Catalunya to the Columbus Monument at the waterfront. Along the broad boulevard, which follows what was once the route of an old stream, are many of the city's best known attractions like the opera house, the Boqueria market and Plaça Reial where Gaudí designed the street lamps. La Rambla is divided into five distinctive "ramblas" (collectively Las Ramblas),recalling the history of each part. Local legend has it that if you drink from the Canaleta fountain in the ramble nearest Plaça de Catalunya, you will keep coming back to Barcelona.
