A pretty stretch of beach between Copacabana and Laranjeiras, Botafogo is close to downtown, with a cycling/jogging path the full length and stunning views. Although beautiful for photo ops with sailboats and Sugar Loaf in the background, the inlet is likely too polluted for swimming. Nearby are the Museu do Índio and the Villa-Lobos Museum.
