Over 500 mariachi bands from as far away as Australia gather each year at Guadalajara's International Mariachi Festival, which includes championship rodeos, art exhibits, dance and tequila tastings. Musicians serenade in the streets downtown and in various theaters and shopping centers. The largest mariachi celebration in the world is kicked off by a parade of mariachi musicians in full dress, cowboys on horseback and folkloric dancers.
