Juan Indalecio Hernández Ibarra came from Jalisco to open a cantina/shop on the north side of Plaza Garibaldi in 1923. El Salón Tenampa soon became the home of mariachi music and continues to draw crowds into the wee hours. Along with the music, it serves up tequila and traditional dishes like pozole (a hominy soup) and birria (a spicy stew).
