Zachary Taylor State Park near the Naval Station has the distinction of being the southernmost beach in the U.S. and one of the most popular in the Keys. A National Historic Landmark since 1973, it is the site of a mid-19th century fort, important in the Civil War and Spanish American War. Daily tours will fill in any gaps in your history. In addition to the beach, the park offers opportunities for fishing, snorkeling, exploring a short nature trail, bicycling, picnicking, birding. Snacks and drinks can be picked up in a park café and Duval Street is just a stroll away.
