The oldest continuously operating farmers' market in the US, the Reading Terminal Market has been selling produce in good times and bad since 1892. These days it's a bustling food bazaar with more than 80 vendors offering everything from Amish treats to artisan cheeses to cookbooks and quilts to gourmet prepared foods from around the world, including the famed Philly Cheesesteak. Three of the stalls are run by descendants of the original merchants. The top tourist attraction in the city, it's good for noshing or attending a special event like a food festival or cookbook signing. Get a 75-minute guided tour at 10 am every Wednesday and Saturday led by a food writer.
