The USS Midway, America's longest serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century, made its last port in San Diego, opening as a museum in 2004. It sailed from 1945 to 1992 and now is the most popular naval warship museum in the US with self-guided audio tours and a look at everything from the engine room to officers quarters to the brig. Since becoming a museum, it has been the set for American Idol, The Bachelor, Extreme Makeover and other television shows. Adult admission is $20, entry somewhat cheaper if purchased on the website.
