Historical marker HM1M14 on the Columbia Heights Heritage Trail is all that remains of Nob Hill, one of America's first openly gay bars for and run by African Americans. When the low-keyed bar closed in 2004 after a half century, it was the longest operating gay bar in town. Its happy hours attracted so many middle-aged, middle-class gay black men that it was nicknamed "The Wrinkle Room."
