Close in and easily accessed from the southern suburbs, Newlands Forest is a conservation area on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. It offers impressive views over the Cape Flats and a good network of paths for dog walkers, hikers and runners. For the ambitious, the Contour trail connects with Kirstenbosch and Table Mountain. Good for picnics and cookouts. Forest entry is free.
