The Archeological Museum of Nice celebrates Cemeneium, founded by Augustus in 14 BCE as the capital of the Roman province Alpes Maritimae. Ruins include an amphitheater, baths, paved streets and an early Christian complex. Also on view are items from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The museum is next door to the Matisse Museum with which it once shared space.
