Santa Caterina, Barcelona's first covered food market, was built in 1845 on the site of an old convent, which explains the name. It was recast by an architectural firm in 2005 and features a multi-colored ceramic roof designed to be seen from the air. it still has traditional food stalls and restaurants, originally intended to serve a blue-collar neighborhood, but many of the stalls now fill e-mail orders.
