Inspired by Europe's opera houses and opened in 1911 with a presentation of Hamlet, Sao Paulo's Municipal Theater is home to the City Ballet, the Coral Lirico (Lyric Choir) and Symphonic Orchestra. The building itself is one of the Sao Paulo's top architectural treasures and a landmark in the city center, with its richly decorated interior and Baroque and Neoclassical influences (frescoes, stained glass panels, crystal chandeliers, statues). It is also famously the site of the Week of Modern Art of 1922 - a seven-day expo of Brazilian Modernismo which broke with European realism. Guided tours are available, and there is a museum and cafe on site.

Um teatro belíssimo, não deixando nada a dever aos teatros mais bonitos da Europa. Há que se tomar um certo cuidado nos arredores.
