The cobble-stoned Bolívar Square features a mid-19th century bronze statue of Simón Bolívar, the first public moment in the city. Around the square stand historical buildings like the Casa de Nariño (Presidential Residence), the Palace of Justice, Liévano Palace (City Hall) and the Palace of San Carlos (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). A major gathering place since the Muiscas of pre-Columbian times, it's a popular spot for demonstrations, manifestations and pigeons.
