The pedestrian street Francisco I. Madero or simply Avenida Madero is named after an early 20th century president, but it has been bustling since earliest colonial days. Running east-west from Zócalo, it passes such notable sites as the monastic ruins of Temple de San Francisco and the amazing tiles of Casa de los Azulejos, a colonial mansion now home to the Sanborns chain's flagship restaurant. Great views of the Zócalo can be had from La Terraza atop Hotel Majestic. And weather willing, you can see forever from the 44th floor observation deck of Torre Latinoamericana - the tallest building in Latin America when it was built in 1956. Madero changes into Avenida Juárez when one-way traffic resumes.
