Las Olas Beach - where Las Olas Boulevard meets the Atlantic Ocean - became an unofficial national landmark after "Where the Boys Are" became a box office hit in 1960. It calls itself the "hub" of the Fort Lauderdale beach, midway between 17th Street Causeway and Sunrise Boulevard. The Elbo Room, the long-running beach bar on the corner, is good for cold beer and live music, particularly during Spring Break. There's free music on the beach every Friday around sundown between mid-March and mid-November.
