Beverly Center is an eight-story shopping fortress housing more than 100 boutiques, department stores and fashion names like Prada, Saint Laurent and Gucci. The unusual mall design accommodates some oil wells on the property. Built in 1981, it is undergoing a $500-million facelift to add skylights, upscale restaurants and a fancy food hall.
