The Bass Museum of Art at 2100 Collins Ave. opened in 1963 in the former Miami Beach Public Library to showcase the private collection of John and Johanna Bass. A $8.2 million expansion has shuttered the museum until Fall 2017, but the building itself is worth a walk-by. Formerly the Miami Beach Library, it is a fine example of Art Deco architecture of the 30s. During the renovation, the museum will offer bassX, a series of artist projects, programs and events in a pop-up gallery at the Miami Beach Regional Library St. just off Collins on 22nd Street.
