Drift or party boat fishing lacks the panache of private deep-sea fishing charters, but it gets the angler out on the seas for far less money and the fishing grounds are only 20 minutes away. Instead of a maximum of six fishermen, a drift boat can carry up to 50 though 10-15 is more the norm. You can arrange for a tour or book privately. The Kelley Fleet, out of Bill Bird Marina in Haulover Beach Park, has drift trips seven days a week at 9 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., and anchored or bottom fishing 8 p.m. to midnight. From April through October, it also offers late night fishing, drift or anchor, from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m., the catch depending on what's running. Fees are $45 for adults and $35 for chlldren 12 and under for the half-day drift and anchor/bottom fishing and $71 for adults, $61 for children for full-day trips. Fees vary on the late night fishing. You take home what you catch.
