The Royal Pavilion was built as a pleasure palace and seaside retreat for King George IV, then Prince of Wales. Its dazzling Indo-Saracenic architecture of domes and minarets has become a symbol of Brighton and its gardens, galleries, great kitchen, music room, royal bedrooms, banqueting room and tearoom are open to visitors year-round. On March 29, 2014, it hosted one of a number of the first legal same-sex marriages to take place in the United Kingdom.
