Part of the city's science museum, the Barcelona Botanical Garden showcases plants from six Mediterranean-type climate zones from around the world. It opened in 1999 behind the Olympic Stadium and covers 14 hectares (36 acres). Admission is free on certain days, including every Sunday from 3 pm and the first Sunday of every month. Also on Montjuïc Hill, behind Palau Nacional, is the Historic Botanical Gardens, founded n 1930 in an old quarry and reopened in 2003.
