A pleasant 1.5-mile (2 km) walk (or cycle or rollerblade) along the east bank of the Huangpu River, the Promenade is where locals and tourists go for spectacular views of the city's most impressive architecture, to survey the river traffic and to grab a bite in a cafĂ© or from a vendor or kiosk. The free stroll is particularly captivating at sunset or after dark when beacons sweep the river.
