The elegant Savoy with views of the Thames is the hotel Richard D'Oyly Carte built in the late 19th century with his profits from Gilbert and Sullivan productions. It was the first luxury hotel in the country and first with electricity throughout, an electric elevator and hot running water. The iconic 267-room hotel is also famous for its afternoon tea, its American Bar and three restaurants: Kaspar's Seafood Bar, Gordon Ramsay's Savoy Grill and Simpson's-In-The-Strand, a British culinary institution where roast meats are served on silver-domed carts. The staff speaks more than two dozen languages.
