The Queen's official residence since 1837 and the monarchy's administrative headquarters, Buckingham Palace sits in the heart of London, surrounded by the St. James's and Green public parks. Inside the grounds are private gardens and thousands of works of art from the Royal Collection, on show to the public through rotating exhibits and with advanced booking. At the eastern entrance, crowds gather to watch the Changing of the Guards, and in the Summer, the State Rooms (including the Throne room) are open to the public. Opening times vary depending on the Queen's schedule.
