The seat of German government since 1999 and a German landmark, the Reichstag Building (Reichstagsgebäude) was originally modeled after Philadelphia's Memorial Hall and completed in 1894. During its lifetime, it witnessed much of the country's tumult and eventually fell to ruin and disuse before its restoration. Today, it is popular with public-space saavy Berliners who come to lounge on its front lawn en masse during the warm months. The imposing glass dome, once burned under mysterious circumstance, is now a spherical glass room that offers visitors beautiful views of the surrounding cityscape, and its rooftop terrace offers a delightful restaurant.
