The Fischmarkt is Hamburg's most traditional and raucous market, dating from the 18th century. Entertaining vendors hawk just about anything you can image from fourth-hand junk to valuable antiques, plants, parrots - and fresh fish. Over 70,000 visitors turn out each Sunday, some beginning a day, others ending a night of reveling in St. Pauli. Fish sandwiches, beer and live music are served up in the old fish auction house.
