In sprawling, 18th-century informal "English" style, the Englischer Garten world's most impressive public parks. Running the length of the city center to its northeastern limits, it is a glorious tangle of greenery in an otherwise severe, heavily neo-classical city. Expansive enough to contain secrets galore and plenty of quiet spots to catch a few fresh rays of sun, go slacklining, or calmly stroll (and in some designated areas, one can do all this in the nude). There is the Chinessischer Turm, Monopteros, Japanese teahouse, Kleinhesseloer See with its paddle boats, and even a wave simulator for surfing enthusiasts. And, the Nazi-museum-turned-antifascist-contemporary-gallery Haus der Kunst is at the park's south end.
