The sweeping views and proximity to bars and restaurants make English Bay Beach (also called First Beach) one of the most popular in the city. Parking is street-only, so you may want to take a taxi or public transportation, but once here the area is convenient to Davie Street Village and the whole West End neighborhood. Smart beach-goers will get here early to stake out a spot on the sand, or simply take the time to walk the Stanley Park Seawall, which runs along the east side of the beach. Kayak rentals and volleyball courts are also available for sportier types. It's not particularly cruisy, but if you head north along the seawall, there is a small wooded section that can see some action.
