Midtown was once the definitive heart of gay Atlanta. As with many gayborhoods, high-priced condos and mainstream businesses have moved in, but for decades the intersection at 10th and Piedmont was the center of LGBTQ life, home to the Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse from 1993 to 2012. Nightlife hot spots like Backstreet and The Armory may have closed years ago, but neighborhood mainstays like Blake's on the Park, The Hideaway, Joe's on Juniper and Burkhart's continue to wave the flag. Smack dab in the center of the city, Midtown is still the best place to let loose on foot for a day or night out of museums, restaurants, bars and parks.
