Café Coca Cola (est. 1875) boasts of being the oldest café in Panama City. The name came later when Panama and Cuba became the first places outside the US to bottle Coca-Cola in 1906. Another history factoid: Che Guevara stayed in a room upstairs. At the far end of Avenida Central near Plaza Santa Ana, it's a short walk from touristy Casco Viejo for a typical Panamanian breakfast and a sampling of local color. As waitresses bustle about, old men from the neighborhood read the morning papers or play chess. Side streets are a bit sketchy, but the café is at a busy intersection.
