The highest point in the city at 654 feet and topped with an over-sized Panamanian flag, Ancon Hill offers spectacular city views. A favorite of runners, hikers and nature lovers, a major raptor migration takes place each October and November. The U.S Southern Command, whose headquarters was mid-way up Ancon in Quarry Heights, once manned a bunker inside the hill. Stop at the Canal Administration Building at the bottom of the hill to view the murals in the rotunda and get a quick history of how the canal was built. Free admission weekdays 7:30 am to 4:15 pm.
